Welcome to the Good Shepherd Parish!

We are One Parish Worshipping at Two Sites

"We, the Roman Catholic community of Good Shepherd Parish, strive to be a living sign of Christ's love in and for the world. In response to our Baptismal call, nourished by the Eucharist and guided by the values of the Second Vatican Council, we seek to continue the mission of Jesus Christ by welcoming, supporting and guiding all through prayer, sacramental celebration, service and education."

     Bishop Reed,
Good Shepherd Parish Community
     Welcomes you!

During the summer months we were able to enjoy coffee and delicious light refreshments after the Sunday morning liturgies. Special thanks to Debbie Levens of the Hospitality Committee for coordinating this endeavor and to the many wonderful people who hosted or contributed baked goods: Marcia Anderson, Susan Carson, Mike DeGeorge, Estela DeGlavic, Donna Drvaric, Georgia Gojmerac-Leiner, Ed & Lorna Hebert, Laura & Mia Housman, Peg Ingolia, Janice & Jamie Kiley, Pam Koskovich, Connie Lane, Silvana & Tim Lax, Susi Leeming, MaryAnn and Chuck Malovrh, Maria & Dave Martin, Barbara Matyi, Karen McAnern, Kelly McPherson, Josephine Ricciardi, Elinor Robinson, Marilynn Rokes, Sue Schafer, Mary Slavin, Joyce and Michael Toomey, Francis Woehrling and Nikki Zanni. Thank you for contributing to the welcoming spirit of Good Shepherd Parish!

“Name Tag Sunday” – September 25

Yes, it is what you think. In an effort to help Bishop Reed and Father Jerry (and, even ourselves) get to know more people by name, we are going to give “Name Tag Sunday” a try. What does it mean? The weekend of September 25th we will have name tags available for everyone to take as you come to church. After Mass you will take the tag with you and perhaps leave it in your car to have on hand for the next “Name Tag Sunday.”

“Name Tag Sunday” will take place the last weekend of each month. This is just one small way to build meaningful community and help everyone feel welcome.

Religious Education

Leaders Needed for Children’s Liturgy of the Word at the 10:30 Mass- This important ministry creates an opportunity for our children to understand and participate in the Mass in a way that is accessible to them.  Easy to follow materials and training are provided.  Dates are flexible around your schedule.  Please be contact Sue Muldoon in the religious education office if you are interested in learning more about this ministry.

Nuestro Pequenos Hermanos  NPH

The children at NPH (Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos, “Our Little Brothers and Sisters”) are orphaned, abandoned or disadvantaged. Many have suffered physical and/or verbal abuse, have lived in horrible conditions, and have been shuffled from one family member to another. Like all children, they seek love and security, a place they can call home. When they come to NPH, they range in age from newborn to teenager and are told they will never be asked to leave.

Children at NPH homes are not available for adoption. Instead they are welcomed with their brothers and sisters and become a part of the larger, stable NPH family environment that gives them a chance to focus on education and personal growth, knowing that a loving support system will always be in place for them. The children become contributing citizens in their own countries. NPH homes are located in Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua & Peru.

Photos of children already being sponsored by Good Shepherd parishioners, and of children needing sponsors, are in the back of both churches.  Please consider sponsoring a child or university student.  We hope to find sponsors for 10 more children by the end of October as well as for 7 university students in addition to raising money through a special collection and the Fiesta Dinner to continue supporting the 3 university students sponsored by Good Shepherd Parish ($15000).  Thank you for your continued support of NPH/GSP partnership!

Congratulations!  Good Shepherd Parish has surpassed its 2016 Catholic Appeal goal of $66,106. Thank you to the parishioners and families that helped us reach our goal. The Catholic Appeal provides critical funding to hundreds of pastoral, charitable, and educational programs that impact tens of thousands throughout our Archdiocese. Thank you for responding to Cardinal Seán’s call to witness more clearly the depths of God’s love for each one of us through this important effort.

Stephen Ministry

When We Need God’s Love Most

When do we need God’s love most? Of course we need that love every second of our

lives. But at times God’s love is especially precious to us, times when we lose a loved

one or when life becomes so confusing that we do not know where to turn. At times like

these, it is very important to have someone who cares. Our parish has trained 10 Stephen

Ministers, lay people who offer a ministry of Christian caring within our parish and

beyond.

EXTEND THE INVITATION

“Come and see” was the invitation Jesus offered to a few men of Galilee who were interested in knowing more about him – who he was, where he lived, what his teachings were about? This same invitation we extend to adults who have not been baptized or who have been baptized in another faith tradition but are interested in the Catholic faith or adults who have not received First Holy Communion or Confirmation. Please share this invitation with family members, neighbors or friends. Questions? Contact Sister Roberta at rrzeznik@goodshepherdwayland.org or 508.650.3545.
